Another interesting point is that the ability of software to retrieve deleted files is now effected by the ability of the software to scan a hard drive quickly. Any program to recover lost data can do fast or quick scan on a 100 Gigabyte hard drive in just a few minutes.
But to retrieve deleted files that have been permanently deleted from a Windows recycle bin or as part of an uninstall one must use a program offering deep or complete scan technology. Here is where the problem increases in scope. Some supposedly usable file recovery programs are so slow during a deep scan that the time required to search for and recover lost data can be as long as a full week. Any interruption of the process requires that the search start over from the beginning. These programs are worthless. A better program to recover deleted files will search through an entire one hundred gigabyte drive in around an hour’s time.
